Uliflex Industrial Belt's after-sales engineer provided feedback that in the operation and maintenance workshop of some clients factories, we can always see such a scene: after the equipment stops, the first reaction of the workers is to remove the broken timing belt and replace it with a new one. Soon after, the belt has problems with tooth loss, cracking, deviation and wear. Many people subconsciously attribute the reason to "poor belt quality", but a large number of on-site dismantling and working condition analysis have proven that more than half of the timing belts are quickly damaged, which is not a problem with the material itself, but an invisible trap hidden in the selection, installation, working conditions, and maintenance, causing the leather belts to enter "structural failure" in advance.
Uliflex Industrial Belt engineers believe that the most easily overlooked reason is the selection mismatch buried from the design source. Many procurement and engineering personnel only look at the models marked on the drawings when selecting models, without verifying parameters based on actual operating conditions. Many automation equipment drawings come standard with lightweight synchronous belts, but in actual production, the equipment runs continuously for 20 hours a day and completes a start stop cycle every 30 seconds. The load directly approaches 80% of the allowable tension of the belt, and the workshop environment temperature exceeds 40 ℃ for a long time. In this case, even if a higher priced imported belt is used, it will not last for more than half a year before stretching deformation and tooth root fracture occur. A more common misconception is to mix tooth profiles, using trapezoidal teeth for high-speed impact scenarios and micro teeth for heavy-duty conveyor lines. The mismatch between tooth profiles and working conditions directly reduces the theoretical life of the belt by more than 70%.
The second major source of high-frequency loss is the loss of accuracy during installation and debugging. Many people rely on hand feel to adjust the tension when installing timing belts. If the tension is too tight, the fiber skeleton inside the belt will be under high tensile stress for a long time, and fatigue fracture will occur after a few months; Being too loose can lead to an increase in meshing clearance, frequent tooth jumping during equipment start-up and shutdown, and repeated impact wear on the tooth surface, which can quickly result in tooth loss problems. In addition, due to the misalignment and parallelism deviation of the pulley axis, the belt will be subjected to unilateral force for a long time, and the edge will be quickly worn and torn like being "bitten". Even a brand new qualified belt will have its service life shortened by more than half under such off load conditions.
The third major invisible killer is the continuous erosion caused by harsh working conditions. Many production workshops have unprotected transmission areas, where metal debris and grinding dust get stuck between the belt teeth and gear teeth, creating a continuous micro cutting effect that gradually grinds the tooth surface flat; Oil stains and corrosive mist adhering to the surface of the belt will gradually damage the molecular structure of the rubber, causing the belt to harden and crack prematurely. If the equipment is exposed to high temperature and humidity for a long time, the timing belt made of ordinary materials will accelerate hydrolysis aging, and its toughness will rapidly decrease. The belt, which was originally designed to last for 3 years, may completely lose its elasticity in less than a year.
The last reason that is easily overlooked is the habit of "compromise" in operations and maintenance. Many factories have not established a regular inspection mechanism for timing belts, and when there is slight wear and tension attenuation on the belt, it is not adjusted in a timely manner. Small hidden dangers gradually accumulate into sudden breakage. Many devices have been running for five or six years, and the tooth surface of the pulley has worn out grooves. They continue to be used with new belts, and the accuracy deviation of the old pulley will directly cut the tooth root of the new belt, falling into a vicious cycle of "the more it is replaced, the easier it is to break".
Uliflex draws conclusions based on years of experience in the industrial belt industry:Timing belts are never fragile parts that can be solved by simply replacing them. Their lifespan is the result of the combined effects of selection, installation, operating conditions, and maintenance. Breaking away from the single misconception of "poor quality" and investigating the hidden dangers in every link from the source is the only way to truly make the service life of timing belts meet the design standards, significantly reducing equipment maintenance costs and downtime risks.
Foshan Uliflex Transmission Technology Co., Ltd. (Uliflex Industrial Belt) participated in the 2026 China International Elevator Exhibition from May 20 to 23, 2026 at the Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China. Yangzhou P&B Transmission Technology Co., Ltd., which belongs to the same group as us, also participated in this exhibition.
For the elevator lifting scene, the elevator traction steel belt produced by us is made of high-strength steel wire core and high-quality polyurethane elastomer. The product models cover 25P3, 30P3, 60P3, PV30, PV40, PV50, PV60. The elevator traction steel belt produced by Uliflex can be perfectly applied from the villa elevator to the elevator in the skyscraper. Just like the Loong Boat in the Dragon Boat Festival, it can stably and safely send users to the designated floor even in the face of high load and large vertical drop. Uliflex always puts the safety of elevator users first.
